Feya - Shiro rough concepts

so, funny story. I plunk down a couple nights back for cooldown drawings and I'm all "k, lets get this human for my visual novel designed. He needs to be a relatable antithesis to the out-there fantasy magic of Feya's world."
... so I first draw the titular fae queen on the right. Then after a number of attempts I draw the guy on the left. I get to this point, smile thinking job well done ... then realize I just drew myself stylized.

... oddly everyone else I'm working with on the project is telling me to keep the design as is.
